In Agriculture, MgO is used as a magnesium supplement in compound fertilizers. In Feed additives, MgO is recognized as an essential nutrient for sheep or cows. Magnesium supplementation is needed to prevent hypomagnesemia (grass tetany-staggers) and milk fever (when calcium is also low) in beef (and dairy) cows from calving to peak milk production. In construction, MgO is used to produce industry floors, building boards, and cement.
