Alumina Mortar and Pestle Set is made of aluminum oxide ceramics. Alumina is a ceramic material with high thermal conductivity, compressive strength, were resistance and thermal shock resistance. It also has a low thermal expansion, making it a suitable material for furnace use in the crucible, tube, and thermocouple sheath form. Alumina is high hardness and good wear resistance, making it a suitable material for ball valves, piston pumps, and deep drawing tools. In addition, it can be easily combined with metals and other ceramic materials using brazing techniques and metalizing.

A tad bigger than I had anticipated, but that's a good thing. It has solidity and heft to it that allows for good grinding pressure. I add pure vitamin C powder (though it's actually more like tiny crystals) to my nightly face serum (much more cost effective and use effective than buying vitamin C lotions or creams) but wanted a finer, more powdery consistency since it dissolves faster. This worked perfectly, I was able to mill an 8oz bottle of crystals into a baby powder-fine product in about half an hour. For my needs and expectations, this item is ideal.
